RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS
BUSE À ÉPAULETTES

A pair of Red-Shouldered hawks have been nesting in the arboretum during spring/summer of 2005 and have successfully hatched at least two young ....

Un couple de buse à épaulettes niche à l'Arboretum (printemps/été 2005) et a donné naissance à au moins deux jeunes ....

mid-May ..... before hatching the parent bird keeps a careful eye on nearby birders

Early June - three chicks present and hungry

One of the parents was aggressively "en garde"

26 June .... despite really bad weather in intervening weeks, at least two of the young were still alive and seemingly healthy and alert. The adults were not seen on this occasion although at least one was calling from quite close.

2 July ........ the young were able to leave the nest and perch on nearby branches as this one was.

On 8 July they were flying strongly.
